Mother

When a child is born, it's not only the birth of a child it
is also the birth of a mother. In that miraculous moment,
the ordinary woman turns into a mother affecting a 180
degree change in her attitude. No matter how selfish and
rigid the woman may have been, as a mother she just
dissolves intolove. The physicality of it aside, it's the
caring and sharing attitude that makes a mother. A mother's
love is, perhaps, the purest emotion in human relationships.
Don't they say "necessity is the mother of invention." It
is a condition that inspires a person to do certain thing.
If necessity is the origin of any activity then definitely
mother is a necessity for all of us in shaping our lives as
she is the origin and source of our lives. Isn't she?
Abraham Begot Isaac once said that men don't recognize
their children even though they father them. This leads to
the fact that the world revolves in and around mother.
We always wonder about our mothers, how they would have
been when they were the same age as us, more precise, their
daughters. Don't you? Can you imagine the answer you would
get? Most of the time the answer is that they were never
like their daughters. They never dreamt of being an
engineer, professor or anything, but a wife or simply put,
a mother. For all those mothers who were the eldest of all
siblings, their teenage must have passed in work and
responsibilities towards the family. Probably their mothers
would have taught them only one thing back then, to be a
hard-working woman, nothing more or nothing less. This
story is quiet relevant and true for all those mothers who
lived in some remote part of the world before war or any
other such mishap and migrated to United States of America,
thereafter.
Many of our mothers would be carrying the burden of
traditions and may have married young in keeping with these
traditions. It is the mother who is expected to assume
responsibility for ensuring the respect, dignity, unity,
culture and values of the family. Yet, our mothers are
constantly trying to befriend us, regardless of the style in
which they were brought up. Don't you feel like having your
mother around when you are going through a tough period
emotionally or if you are down with fever? And she is always
there for you in your times of need. Of course, we don't
like it when she lectures us about our behavior, attitudes
and dress sense. But remember, she sees our behavior as part
of her responsibility and wants to ensure the best.
Working mothers are a lot more hardworking and therefore
stressed than stay-at-home mothers. Besides keeping the
domestic machinery well oiled and functioning smoothly, they
have to go out and bring home our daily bread. In the midst
of all this, if she forgets your birthday or doesn't turn up
for the PTA meetings, you tend to judge her rather severely.
It's because all children take their mothers for granted.
Mothers are grossly misunderstood by their children, may be
because they don't blow their own trumpets and keep working
silently without making a fuss.
Whatever be our perception about our mother, it will be
impossible to not miss her once she is gone and we are alone
in this world. In truth, mothers never die; they live on in
our successes, attitudes, values and behavior. Because it is
these values that we have imbibed from her.
